Bendigo's Central Deborah Gold Mine
When gold was first discovered in Bendigo in 1851, it sparked decades of gold mining worth billions of dollars. Central Deborah Gold Mine was one of the last two commercial mines to cease operation in the wealthy Bendigo goldfields, closing in 1954. Today, Central Deborah Gold Mine shares its
rich history with visitors.
Bendigo Mine Experience Tour - 75 minutes
Don a hard hat and miner's lamp, descend 61 metres beneath the surface of Bendigo and be guided through the honeycomb of underground tunnels where almost one ton of gold was unearthed. Guided by one of our friendly and knowledgeable guides you will discover what conditions as a miner were really like during the harsh gold rush era. Children must be at least 3
years of age.
Underground Adventure Tour - 2.5 hours
Gear up in overalls, boots, miner's hat and lamp. Climb ladders, work a mine drill and search for gold with finders keepers! Descending to the third level of the mine, 85 metres underground, you will be mesmerised by the lure of gold and the stronghold that it had over people as you explore the underground tunnels, drifts and stope workings that still contain gold veins. This tour also includes a 'miner's lunch' served underground in the Crib Room. Children must be at least 8 years of age.
Afterwards, explore the surface of the mine with its treasure trove of vintage mining machinery, gold panning and interpretive museum.
